Netflix adds 79 movies in September 2026, led by Alien, Aliens and Scarface. Most of the list landed in one drop on September 3: Jaws, The Deer Hunter, The Blues Brothers and a run of 1980s and 1990s comedies alongside. Another 21 titles leave before the end of the month, Anatomy of a Fall and The Theory of Everything among them.

Every title below is live on Netflix in the US, and the full shelf updates daily on the Netflix what-to-watch page.

The best of the new arrivals

1. Alien (1979)

117 min · IMDb 8.5 · RT 93 · Metascore 89 · September 3

The best-reviewed arrival of the month. A commercial hauler answers a distress call, one crew member comes back with a passenger, and the ship becomes a haunted house in space. Horror first, science fiction second, with a countdown at the end.

2. Aliens (1986)

The sequel trades dread for firepower. Ripley wakes from a 57-year drift and goes back out with a squad of space marines to a colony that has gone quiet. Settlers, an android, cryogenics, and a warrior woman lead.

If you only have one night, take Alien over this: the same 93 on Rotten Tomatoes, 20 minutes shorter, and a higher Metascore.

3. Scarface (1983)

170 min · IMDb 8.3 · RT 77 · Metascore 65 · September 3

Tony Montana gets a green card for a murder, then builds a cocaine empire in Miami and loses everyone on the way up. A rise-and-fall gangster film that runs nearly three hours.

4. The Deer Hunter (1978)

Three steelworkers from a small Pennsylvania town go to Vietnam. A wedding before, Russian roulette during, and the damage after. Just over three hours, and a 90 Metascore that only The Texas Chain Saw Massacre beats this month.

5. Jaws (1975)

124 min · IMDb 8.1 · RT 97 · Metascore 87 · September 3

The biggest split on the list: an 8.2 from audiences on TMDB against a 44 from critics. A race car driver, his family, and the dog who narrates the whole thing. Based on the novel, with reincarnation as the through line. Drama and romance, so bring tissues.
